Trey Gowdy: “this drip, drip, drip is undermining the credibility of this administration”

Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.), the Chairman of the House Oversight Committee, rebuked the Trump administration recently for the disclosure of Donald Trump Jr.’s encounter with a Russian lawyer in order to procure incriminating information that would be later used to┬ásabotage Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton.

“Someone close to the president needs to get everyone connected with that campaign in a room and say, ‘From the time you saw Dr. Zhivago until the moment you drank vodka with a guy named Boris, you list every single one of those and we’re going to turn them over to the special counsel,’ because this drip, drip, drip is undermining the credibility of this administration,” said the South Carolina Representative, referring to the 1965 movie, in an interview with Fox News on Tuesday night.

In addition to that, Gowdy also said the Russian case has swayed the Congress from proceeding with other significant matters.

“There is a political component to it, which is: Here you are in mid-July asking me about Russia, and it’s not your fault that you’re doing it, but that’s how another week is starting here, so that’s a political concern,” Gowdy argued. “You’re not here to ask me about infrastructure or tax reform or anything about that.”

However, Gowdy failed to provide an explicit answer about whether or not he thinks Trump Jr.’s meeting somehow violated the Constitution.

Trump Jr. released the much scandalous email chain that shed light on a┬ámeeting he made with a Russian lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya, offering to give him “very high level and sensitive information ” aimed to “incriminate” then-Democratic candidate for President Hillary Clinton.

Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign chairperson, and Jared Kushner, the President’s son-in-law and senior adviser, were also present when the meeting happened.
