Cowboys owner says players will warm the bench if they disrespect the flag

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones warned any player who disrespects the flag by kneeling during the national anthem won’t play, Washington Examiner reported.

“If there is anything disrespecting the flag, then we will not play. Period,” Jones said Sunday, according to the Dallas Morning News. “We’re going to respect the flag and I’m going to create the perception of it.”

“We’re going to do that. It’s the rules that are on the book in my opinion,” Jones said.

Jones previously clarified that he does not condone any disrespect to the flag and anthem, referring to the widespread anthem protests.

“I just feel so strongly that the act of recognizing the flag is a salute to our country and all of the people that have sacrificed so that we can have the liberties we have. I feel very strongly that everyone should save that moment for the recognition of the flag in a positive way, so I like the way the Cowboys do it,” said Jones.

He added: “We strongly, strongly support the flag. In every way, we support — it’s almost ridiculous to be saying it — the people that for generations and generations have given it all up so we can get out here and show off in front of millions of people on television. We respect that so much. That’s the real business.”

Cowboys receiver Dez Bryant has weighed in on the issue of racism after the anthem protests, acknowledging that the reason for black people’s lack of success in American societies is because of other black people. Quoth Bryant:

First and foremost, I would like to say I do a great job of minding my own business, but it’s pressing on my heart to share my thoughts about white Americans and black Americans (racism).

I saw a person quote Charles Barkley when he said, “We as black people, we’re never going to be successful not because [of] you white people, but because of other black people.”

I hate to admit it, but I understand that quote.
